Recycling Guide

The Groton Recycling Center accepts the following items.

Recycling Center Hours

Do

Mixed Paper

Junk mail, paperboard, magazines, catalogs, paperback books, office paper.

Cardboard

Please breakdown your cardboard so that it is flat.

Newspaper

Magazines

Magazines and catalogs.

Cartons

Please recycle your empty juice boxes, milk and soup cartons. It's okay to leave the caps on.

Office Paper

White office paper only. Staples okay, but no binders or paper clips.

Corrugated Cardboard - Pizza boxes/etc.

Plastic #1 (PETE)

Plastic containers should be empty. Please remove all caps!

Plastic #2 (HDPE natural) only

Milk jugs, cat litter jugs Plastic containers should be empty. Please remove all caps!

Plastic #2 (HDPE colors)

Plastic containers should be empty. Please remove all caps!

Plastics #3 thru #7

Plastic containers should be empty. Please remove all caps! all

Bulky Rigid Plastics

5 gallon buckets (clean), plastic toys, etc.

Metal / Tin cans

Metal containers should be empty. Ferrous metals only.

Aluminum / Foil

Aluminum cans should be empty.

Scrap Metal

Bottles and jars ONLY remove all caps

Appliances

We accept most appliances, including washers, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners and microwaves. The following fees apply:

  • air conditioners $20
  • dehumidifier $20
  • exercise equipment $20
  • refrigerators $20
  • gas grills $5
  • microwaves $15
  • stove $15
  • washer/dryer $20

Batteries

Bicycles

Bicycles do not need to be in working condition. $5 fee applies.

Books

we accept both hardcover books that will go in book bin and softcover books will go in mix paper

Carpeting

Call for pricing on carpeting. The following fees apply to rugs: 6x8 rugs $15, 8x10 $20

Electronics

Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers do not need to be empty when dropped off.

Furniture

All furniture should be 'donation' quality.

Lightbulbs fluorescent

We accept fluorescent and compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) only. $1 each

Mattresses

The mattresses you bring to the recycling center will be deconstructed into their various components (wood, fiber, metal). The following fees apply:

  • $30 if mattress in good condition
  • $150 if mattress in bad condition
 

Mercury

Thermostats, thermometers, etc. Bring to the gate house for safe disposal.

Oil

Please see attendant for location of motor oil disposal location.

Propane Tanks

Propane tanks do not need to be empty to be dropped off. $5 fee apllies

Textiles

Textiles can be either "donation quality" or rags.

Tires

The following fees apply:

  • $8 (tires with rims)
  • $4 (tires without rims)

U.S. Flags

U.S. Flags brought to the Recycling Center will be disposed of properly.

Other

Construction and Demolition Debris

Construction & Demolition debris includes lumber, roofing shingles, etc. $0.20/lb. No commercial businesses.

Toilets

Fees may apply.

Yard Waste Grass and Leaves

Grass clippings and leaves only.

Yard Waste Brush

Brush only. The following fees apply: $30 a truck load $60 a dump truck load

Christmas Trees

Bring One for the Chipper! Trees accepted through Friday, January nn, 2022.

Holiday Lights

Holiday lights accepted through Friday, January nn, 2022.

Election Signs

Election signs can be brought to the Recycling Center to be recycled. They are accepted in November and December of election years.

Pumpkins

Pumpkins (gourds, etc.) may be composted along with other food scraps.
